No one man can make a difference. Well, that just is not true, but we will get to that later. With the exception of the slot machines, blackjack may be one of the most popular games at any casino. So, back to our one man can make a difference story. We all know that the casinos and casino resorts in Atlantic City have been struggling…a lot. This April saw a dip in casino revenues. The Tropicana saw a twenty percent fall alone. There are many that can attribute this dip or part of this dip to one man. During the month of April a mystery casino goer was able to sit at blackjack tables at the Tropicana casino and take the place for $5.8 million. (Yes, you read that right.) It was then reported, that the same man may have done the same thing to other Atlantic City casinos.
The identity of the mystery casino goer has just recently been revealed. He is forty-nine year old Don Johnson of Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Mr. Johnson is the Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Development LLC. His firm is responsible for utilizing computer assisted betting software for horse racing. After coming forward Mr. Johnson noted that he was able to win $4 million at Caesars Atlantic City plus $5 million at the Borgata. Almost $15 million! This was just for blackjack, and just for last month.
Mr. Johnson confessed (or at least admitted) that he has no particular strategy. He stated that most casinos bet against the player because they don’t have the bankroll for the long run, “But I have my own bankroll.” He was able to keep up with the ups and downs of gambling. Able to outlast the peaks and valleys gave him a successful payout. He adamantly denies card counting. Mr. Johnson has been playing blackjack seriously for close to fifteen years. He started out by making $25 bets. Now he is able to spend upwards of $100,000 per hand. This helps by making each win even bigger.
